Disclaimer: I was invited by the management of Serafina, Kolkata for food tasting. What follows next is an honest experience. Take it with A Pinch Of Salt!
PS. Special thanks to Ms. Sushmita Kundu for lending me her handset to click pictures while my phone battery died.
Back in 2015, Kolkata saw a new face of Italian cuisine in the form of Serafina. Patrons kept pouring in numbers for their wood-fired pizzas and the iconic Tiramisu, till it closed for repairs.
After a long hiatus, Serafina comes back in a new and improved version, still evoking that same essence it started off with 3 years ago. The area of this Italian fine dining up on the 5th floor Quest Mall may have reduced in space, but the ambiance still embarks the warmth just like the previous version. Oh! and yes, you can still see your pizzas being prepared in the wood fire oven. My curiosity quirked with their brand new menu and I was keen on knowing what I shall end up satiating.
I started my dinner with Insalata Pollo Grosso which is basically a salad comprising a grilled chicken breast, kidney beans, roasted corn and iceberg lettuce with mustard dressing. If you’re a salad person, you’d enjoy this light yet flavorsome beginning to your meal.
We were served 2 appetizers as a part of our dinner invitation.
Polpette di Manzo Piccante was the second appetizer served to us. It’s basically minced fillet Mignon dumplings with bell pepper in a tangy sauce. Filet mignon for those who are unaware is a steak cut of beef taken from the smaller end of the tenderloin. Since I don’t consume beef, I gave this a miss, my co-diners, however, relished every morsel so I’m assuming this was good.
What bowled me over was the Cremeso Spaghetti A Calabrese. Spaghetti cooked in homemade pink sauce, seasonal vegetables, and aged parmesan were a perfect conglomerate of flavours, not to mention super yummy. Something, both the Vegetarians and Non-Vegetarians would be delighted to satiate.
Also, would urge you to definitely try out the Pesce E Mostarda Salsa, i.e. pan fried bhetki fish with parsley, mashed potatoes in a creamy sauce. The fish completely melted in the mouth and had a burst of flavours.
Serafina is known for their pizzas but their Paradiso Pizza was a little disappointing compared to the other dishes served to us. Served with generous toppings of Chicken, Olives, Onions, Mozzarella cheese with Basil Pesto & Tomato Sauce, the pizza lacked any distinctive flavour. Everything seemed to have been merged with each other. Just hope the management pays attention to this.
We were introduced to two new desserts apart from the legendary Tiramisu– one being the Chocolate Temptation and the second being the Chocolate Hazelnut Crème Brûlée.
The Chocolate Hazelnut Creme Brûlée that has been newly introduced, promises to give a tough competition to Serafina’s best selling Tiramisu. Silken texture, perfectly torched Brûlée, don’t miss this for the world!
If you’re a Chocolate lover, you could try the Chocolate Temptation. A sinful combination of truffle fudge with chocolate ganache served along with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream- this would be a perfect end to your meal.
All in all, the new version of Serafina is badass and honestly, will call me back again and again!
Tell me how did you like the Chefs Special menu at the brand new Serafina on the comments below or my facebook page! Till then buon appetito!
